Monsters, a 208-page semi-autobiographical graphic novel about STDs, is officially for sale. You can buy it at the Secret Acres website at any time, day or night, or else in the vast virtual marketplace of Amazon.com.

When it was published in September 2009, Monsters not only made it into Diamond’s Previews catalog (an increasingly rare phenomenon in the indy press these days), it was also put on the cover of the same month’s Previews Adult, which labeled the book a “Featured Item,” claiming that with Monsters, “Dahl cements his status among the best cartoonists of his generation.” All this and it’s not even porn! (The subject matter is, however, not for kids — plenty of monsters and boners and what have you.)

Monsters was named sixth best comic overall in the 2009 Best Comics in America Meta-List, beating out a slew of worthy releases, including Robert Crumb’s Genesis.

In 2010, it was nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Reality-Based Work.

Bookstores can order Monsters either through Secret Acres, or through Tony Shenton’s mysteriously efficient one-man distribution service.

Welcome to the Dahl House was published in 2008 by Microcosm, and has been selling briskly since. The book collects some of my early minicomics, most of my more recent minis, and also contains dozens of pages of never-before-seen comics. A swell artifact! It can be boughten at the Microcosm website — or at the Microcosm booth at one of their many bookfair appearances.

Fun facts: Welcome to the Dahl House was awarded the 2008 Expozine prix for Best English-language Graphic Novel. It was also rated the 80th overall best comic of 2008, according to the Best Comic in America Meta-List! (It was actually a four-way tie for 80th with John Kirschbaum’s Petey & Pussy and a couple other comics which I’m assuming also rule.) It beat Johnny Ryan and Gilbert Hernandez, so I suppose that’s saying something. Cartoonist Jesse Reklaw also called Dahl House the #1 comic of 2008.

A few copies of the three Monsters minicomics I self-published between 2006-2008 are still available at the I Know Joe Kimpel online distro. Once they run out, I’m never making more, so now’s yer chance! They include a few choice pages that got edited out of the final, collected story.

I’ve also had stories published in the following anthologies:

…and a few more from back in the day, which you have most likely never heard tell of (but which linger yet within mine weathered, nostalgic heart).
